7 Main Steps of Home Renovation in Dubai

Are you buying a new home in Dubai? Are you getting tired of the design in the old one? Whether you are planning a complete home renovation or just a partial one, you have to consider some main steps before starting.

You need to have a clean plan ahead as renovation projects are time-consuming, and thousands of pounds can go down the drain if you are not considerate enough. The team of Nu Projects Dubai have collected 7 main stages you can expect when renovating your home.

1. Everything Has to Go: Strip out and removal

The first step of each home renovation project is cleaning out every piece of furniture and fixtures from the interior. This process includes removing wallpapers, floors and floor tiles as well. You have to take the rooms back to the bare studs and flooring to expose any underlying problems that need fixing, such as wiring.

When planning the strip out and removal, you have to consider bringing in a dumpster, depending on the amount of material you have to clear out.

2. Bear Functionality in Mind: Structural work

When the interior is cleaned out properly, the real work can start. During structural works, you can make any changes to the floor plan. Think through how you will use the rooms on a daily basis and recreate a layout from a functional standpoint.

3. Wiring is Important: First fix

After finalizing the new layout, wiring can be put into place. Even if you are skilled enough to change the wiring, we recommend contacting an electrician; if you do something wrong it can cost your life!

4. Changing the Layout: Drywalling and plastering

The next step is to put up the drywall. Be considerate; it’s costly to make any changes to the layout after drywalling!

If you are happy with the new floorplan, the plastering process can start.

5. Double Check Everything: Second fix

After plastering, the second fix can begin:

  • light switches, plug sockets and light fittings will be installed

  • plumbing appliances will be connected, tested and fixed if needed

  • joiners will do their finishing touches on doors and any woodwork

Nu’s Tip: During this process, everything has to be tested and fixed; otherwise, it will cost you a lot later!

6. Let’s Cover Up: Painting, flooring and tiling

When it comes to covering your walls, you have endless options. You can go with paint or wallpaper or mixing the two; it depends on your personal taste. Colour is easier to apply and is significantly cheaper than wallpaper, while the latter is more customisable.

You can do the flooring, carpeting and tiling yourself, but we highly recommend involving professionals; if you haven’t signed up with a design and build company that take care of the installation, you can ask the company you purchased the flooring from to help you.

Nu’s Tip: Our advice is to purchase flooring and tiles before starting the renovation project as stores are often out of stock, and materials sometimes take weeks or months to arrive.

7. The Final Touch: Furnishing and decoration

When you are happy with how the renovation turned out, you can refurbish your interior. You can pick the furniture pieces yourself or hire a professional to help you. An interior designer is trained to see the hidden potentials of your property and make it functional yet stylish.

Nu’s Tip: We advise you to hire a professional company to help you through the whole home renovation process. This will help you avoid costly mistakes and keep your project on time. If you need help with your design and build project, get in touch with our team.
